[00:00:00] The South Fork football team enjoyed one of the most dominating wins we've ever seen here on the north coast last weekend as the Cubs quickly returned to winning ways. Hello and welcome to this week's KMUD News Sports Report. I'm Ray Hamill with humboldtsports.com we'll have more on the high scoring Cubs in just a moment as we take a look at all of the big local sports stories of the week, including a look back at all of this past week's high school and college football news, as well as a look ahead to this weekend's action, some local volleyball updates, some soccer, some motorsports news and the latest on the HDNL girls golf season. But first up, it was a big week for the South Fork football team which dominated Elite on the way to a 9412 win one week after their first loss of the season against Hayfork. The Cubs responded with the 82 point win. Kaden Hendershot and Martine Navarrette each ran for four touchdowns and as the Cubs rushed for 442 yards. South Fork is also now the number one ranked eight player program in the north coast section according to the MAX Preps rankings. The Cubs were one of five local teams in action last weekend. The Saint Bernards Crusaders traveled to Michigan to play Sacred Heart Academy and dominated on the way to a 460 win, improving to 30 on the season. The Ferndale Wildcats were also in action, traveling to MacArthur to play Fall river and coming away with a 520 win while also improving to 3. 0. The Cats remarkably have now shut out 10 of their last 13 regular season opponents. Rounding out the local weekend action, the Hoopa warriors and Arcata Tigers played on Saturday. Hoopa made the trip to Marin county to play Archie Williams high school and lost 480 falling to 12 on the season. On the Tigers suffered their third straight shutout loss, losing 470 at St. Vincent de Paul in Petaluma and dropping to 0 3. The Tigers have yet to score a point this season.
[00:02:04] Some of the Mendocino county schools were also in action last weekend. The Ukiah Wildcats continued to roll with a 3821 win over Bishop O', Dowd, improving to 40 on the season. Ukiah is now the 12th ranked team in the entire NCS and number three in Division 2. The Willits Wolverines got their first win of the year, beating St. Helena 4135 and improving to 1 and 3 while Fort Bragg dropped a third straight game, losing 4614 to Lower Lake. Round Valley lost 5412 to Priory dropping to 11 while Potter Valley won by forfeit against Cornerstone Christian, improving to 1:1. The local high school action continues this weekend on On Friday night, Arcata and Del Norte will play in Crescent City in a showdown between 03 teams, while 30 McKinleyville hosts 21 Fortuna, each of whom are coming off a bye. Also on Friday night, Ferndale travels to play the Eureka Loggers, who also had a bye last week and are 12 in the season. Ukaya hosts Casa Grande, Fort Bragg plays at Cloverdale, Willits plays at Lower Lake, Potter Valley at Priory and and Round Valley hosts Branson. This week's games got underway on Thursday night. South Fork beat Calistoga 68 38, improving to 31 and St. Bernard's won 380 at Hoopah, improving to 4 0. Switching to local college football College of the Redwoods continued its impressive start to the season against Foothill at the Redwood bowl on Saturday afternoon. The Corsairs overcame a 10 point deficit for the second straight week, outscoring the Els 170 in the second half on on the way to a 2417 win. With the victory, head coach Jason White and his players improved to 40 after dropping their first six games when they made the move up to the more competitive national division before last season. The Corsairs have now won seven of their last eight games dating back to the second half of last season. They continue to trend in the right direction in the state rankings after beating foothill, moving up five spots to number 13 in this week's state coaches poll. The Corsairs will be back in action at the Redwood bowl on Saturday when they host Monterey Peninsula in their final pre conference game before a bye in the schedule next week.
[00:04:28] Switching gears it has been an impressive month for the College of the Redwoods volleyball team, which is enjoying its best run in several years. Head coach Macy Thomas and her players made the trip to Pittsburgh on Wednesday to play a doubleheader against Moraine and Las Medanas and swept both games. The Seahaw women have now won six of their last seven games and are 87 on the season. The Redwoods women will have a two week break in games before opening conference play at Shasta. In local high school volleyball, it was a good week for the Arcata Tigers. A young Arcata team that features just two seniors knocked off defending Pacific League champion Eureka in straight sets in its league opener on Tuesday, dropping the loggers to 1 1. The Del Norte girls also are 11 in league after beating Fortuna in four sets on Tuesday in Redwood League action, defending champion St. Bernards won a hard fought four sets showdown at Hoopa in both schools. League openers also on Tuesday, while Ferndale beat South Fork to keep pace with the defending champs. In local high school girls soccer, the Saint Bernards Crusaders defeated South Fork 31 on Wednesday to move into top spot in the Redwood League standings while Ferndale got the better of McKinleyville in a non league showdown by a score of 6 0.
[00:05:44] Also in girls action on Tuesday, Eureka beat Fortuna 21 and Del Norte defeated Arcata 3 0. In boys action on Tuesday, Arcata traveled to Crescent City and tied del Norte 00 while Fortuna defeated Eureka 4 2. In local motorsports news, this weekend sees the final race night of the year at the Redwood Acres Raceway with a packed night of action on Saturday and rounding out a very busy week in local sports, it was another Good week for McKinleyville's Ingrid Monaghan in HDNL girls golf. The Panthers standout won by four strokes in round three of league play at the Redwood Empire Golf and Country Club in Fortuna for her third league win of the month. Monaghan now leads the league standings by 10 strokes with four rounds of league play remaining. And that's this week's KMUD News Sports Report.
