Southern Humboldt’s oldest living veteran, George K. Mullins, is embarking on a historic journey back to Normandy at the age of 99! A WWII Staff Sergeant in the 101st Airborne Division, Mullins is returning to Europe to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy, thanks to the Best Defense Foundation. Mullins, who landed on Utah Beach on June 7, 1944, and fought in numerous pivotal battles, will join fellow veterans for 12 days of celebrations and remembrances. Before his departure, George shared his incredible story with KMUD News, reflecting on his time in the war and the profound significance of this journey.
