Show Notes

More than 15 months after the last Southern Humboldt animal care practice closed its doors, the area  still doesn't have veterinary service. This lack of service is reflected all over rural America, with vets retiring, unable to find replacements and authorities not doing enough to plug the holes.

This KMUD Public Affairs Special gets to the root of a problem that is leaving rural residents to drive for hours to seek medical care for their pets and explores what remedies may be available.

The program was conceived by Lauren Schmitt who also conducted the interviews. It was written, edited and produced by Sigur-Björn for KMUD.
