[00:00:00] Speaker A: The National Weather Service in Eureka has updated its weekend forecast. Initially, models predicted an atmospheric river over the weekend, but that system is now expected to track further south of our region. Tyler Jewell, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Eureka, has more details. [00:00:23] Speaker B: The last few days the models have shifted that plume of moisture further south. So it looks like there will be an atmospheric river making landfall on Sunday and Monday. But that looks primarily south of our area and looks like it'll more heavily impact the Bay Area and the Sierra. We may get some wraparound precipitation in eastern Mendocino, like portions of the Mendocino National Forest and the Yolobolies. But for Humboldt and Del Norte, it doesn't look like it'll be very impactful. So that is a change from the previous forecast. The last couple of days it's backed off and shifted south of our area. With the most recent updates. [00:01:06] Speaker A: However, the coldest temperatures of the season will arrive early next week, likely bringing snow to lower elevations. [00:01:16] Speaker B: I guess the main story is this is going to be the coldest system that we've seen so far this winter. So we're looking at the potential for the first low elevation snow that we've seen so far this year. This winter, this water year. With this meteorological setup, there is the potential for much lower snow than 2,000ft. So it's possible we could see snow on Portions of 101 in Southern Humboldt and northern Mendocino counties, potentially impacting travel to the south. We could potentially see snow on portions of 101 heading north into Del Norte county as well on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. And then along with that, 299 motorists. [00:01:58] Speaker A: Are advised to prepare by carrying chains and keeping an emergency kit with food, water, blankets and a flashlight. [00:02:08] Speaker B: Sunday and Monday we're expecting this cold air to move in and come in with precipitation. We're looking at snow levels in Humboldt dropping to maybe around 2,500 to 3,000ft on Monday. And then those have the potential to continue to fall out on Tuesday and Wednesday. So we're looking at travel impacts on Berry Summit as early as Monday, where we could expect a few inches of snow on Monday and then potentially more widespread and lower elevation snow on Tuesday and Wednesday. [00:02:41] Speaker A: But tonight and Saturday conditions will be mild before the snow event early next week. [00:02:49] Speaker B: It still looks pretty warm for the weekend. Our minimum temperatures for a majority of Humboldt county are still looking into the high 30s. So I mean, we'll see light rain through the weekend pretty much. There's going to be a brief break on Saturday afternoon and evening, but it should just be generally dreary, showery, light rain. We're not expecting any flooding impacts or anything from this. This will all be beneficial rain through the weekend and then that colder air moves in on Monday and Tuesday, so minor impacts for the weekend. [00:03:26] Speaker A: You can find an up to the minute weather [email protected] EKA.
